What ‘s happening at Pusch Ridge Golf Course?

The course is very brown – happened so fast and is quite the contrast from the lush green in the spring. The golf team plugged the greens and tee boxes and got the course ready for Disc golf. The greens are being watered and look very good!

Disc Golf has 18 holes and have a few tournaments scheduled for the summer. They have a 60 person league on Fridays and carts are available to rent on the weekends. There is some activity in the early mornings, but the heat appears to be a deterrent.

Josh – The Pusch Ridge groundskeeper continues his rotation around the course. Clearing out brush, cutting back limbs, etc. He is doing a fantastic job and is currently working around the pond – making great progress. The pond is quite the attraction for birds and other wildlife. With the heat it is their gathering place. Kind of an Animal Cheers Bar!

The Indigo contract was renewed – Troy Jewkes was formally named the golf pro for all three courses and Cindy MacNider will be coming back to Pusch Ridge in the fall. All good news.

The Friends of PR Board met with the Town of OV for our quarterly discussion, It was a very positive meeting – improvements are in process (including some type of privacy screen for the porta potty) a covered area in front of the tennis courts which will be a great spot to gather after tournaments and other events and improvements to the cart storage area, etc.

The course hosted over 20,000 rounds this past season. What a difference 4 years can make. Disc will end on September 21 – and the crew will start preparing the course for the opening in late October. There is an opportunity for another league. If you have an interest, Darryl Janisse, General Manager of El Conquistador Golf, indicated that Monday – Tuesday or Thursday afternoons or Wednesday morning would work. Let us know and we will connect you with the golf management team.

The Oro Valley Town Council recently voted to allocate the community center tax to the general fund. The golf courses will compete with other town needs for capital. Friends of Pusch Ridge Golf will remain vital to our ongoing success and improvements to the course. We will provide additional updates on this change in future newsletters.

If you are interested in joining our board and advisor team please let us know.

It’s quiet in Oro Valley with so many people travelling – but still lots of fun activities for the sun birds! The Chamber is sponsoring a Locals Eat Local Campaign – 20 restaurants are participating. Spend over $20.00 at 5 of the participants and collect a beautiful cutting board from the Chamber Office… How cool is that?

We had fireworks at Krieg Park for the 4th of July and the aquatic center and recreation center are going full steam with swimming, pickle ball and over 90 classes a month. Golf is busy at El Conquistador and The Quails are playing there for the summer on Tuesday mornings. All good stuff in spite of the heat and minimal rain. Please do your rain dances wherever you are!

Stay safe… Your Friends of Pusch Ridge Board and Advisors
