Hotel and Resort Employees - Advocates of Pusch Ridge Golf!

Congratulations to Tareq a bellman at the El Conquistador Tucson, A Hilton Resort, who won the Hotel Guest Special referral contest for February 2024.

Pusch Ridge Golf offers an all-inclusive deal for hotel and resort guests that has been offered since the course reopened in 2021.  The “Hotel Guest Special” includes 9-hole play, golf cart, rental clubs and a brand new sleeve of Callaway golf balls for $45.  Perfect for the out-of-town guest who wants to play and doesn’t have their clubs with them.

FOPRG volunteers market this guest special to 16 local hotels and resorts by placing rack cards and information flyers throughout the properties.

FOPRG also coordinates and provides funds for a referral program that supports the guest package. Resort/hotel staff members are given referral cards to which they sign their names. Guests hand in the referral cards to the Pro Shop when they check in for golfing. A drawing happens at the end of each month, and the hotel/resort staff member with the most referral cards earns $50 cash!

The guest special has been very popular, and we see multiple referral cards every month.  Bellstaff, concierges, bartenders, front desk clerks and more are excited about this fun contest.  These employees have become some of our best advocates for the course.

Quails Annual Club Championship

The Pusch Ridge Golf Course has been home to the Quails League for over 30 years! This group of active women – several in their 80’s - have played golf, developed strong friendships and experienced many life changing events together. Every Tuesday morning, The Lady Quails conquer the course, and throw in a quarter in hopes of winning the Play of the Day or Chip In prize! An interesting historical note – they actually started at Arthur Pack around 40 years ago and were seeking a new course when they discovered Pusch Ridge.

The first day of their two-day Club Championship kicked off on Tuesday March 12th with an abundance of sunshine and a celebratory hole in one on number 8. Congratulations DeeAnn Leuzinger!! An overall winner will be crowned after the Tuesday, March 19th round and three flight winners will also be honored. The group will celebrate the championship and another outstanding season on the pro-shop patio with a luncheon.

The history and camaraderie of this league is much bigger than golf – the friendships formed under the shadow of beautiful Pusch Ridge are abundant with stories, laughter, tears and cherished memories. May the best Quail win!

Course Improvements

FOPRG has had a seat on the El Conquistador Golf Club (GC) Grounds Committee for two seasons. This relationship helps Pusch Ridge golfers understand Indigo’s groundskeeping issues and the groundskeeper gets alerted to golfer concerns and course issues.

This season, the following issues were brought to the Grounds Committee and, as noted below, have been addressed or are in the process of being addressed:

  • Grass around the greens has become more robust and continues to be cut longer. This helps balls stay on or near the green, rather than rolling down slopes.

  • A bare slope near the #2 green has been repaired through reseeding.

  • Broken tree limbs encroaching on #3 fairway have been removed.

  • The purchase and installation of broken-tee containers by FOPRG volunteers were approved.

  • The 150 marker on hole #6 was repaired.

  • The Adopt-a-hole Program on the 18-hole courses will be expanded to Pusch Ridge. Residents living on each hole will volunteer to assist in filling divots once new boxes for sand arrive on Pusch Ridge. As divots reappear daily, ongoing monitoring will help improve the fairways' condition. More details on this program will be posted in upcoming newsletters.

  • New forward tee box locations are being tested on hole #3. The new location is on the right side of the fairway.

We will keep you informed as ongoing projects are completed.
